The CCR Story
Founded in 1966 as the Capitol Cash Register company, CCR Data Systems has grown
from a small business out of Paul Woetzel’s garage to a national company with
multiple offices and fifty employees. Paul’s son, David Woetzel, attributes
the company’s success to working with premium vendors and supplying customers
with premium services. The Woetzels have seen thirty-three years of "hard work,
blood, sweat, and prayers" pay off in the form of a growing company with a
national presence. In 1946 Paul & Kurt Woetzel left East Germany with their
parents and older brother. The family was fleeing a communist system which was
increasingly showing what an oppressive, dictatorial future was in store for the
citizens. "Only our unswerving faith in God carried us over many of the
obstacles in those early years," says Paul.
Upon graduating from high school, Woetzel worked as a mechanical cash register technician in New Jersey. Soon after moving his family to New Hampshire, he went into business for himself and began providing aggressively-priced service on NCR registers. Before long, Paul started to pick up used equipment to refurbish and sell and his brother, Kurt, joined the business as the first full-time salesman.
In the 1970's CCR became one of the first dealers for the new line of electronic registers. The success of this product line permitted continued growth and a corporate office was opened in Concord, NH. Through the 1980's, CCR moved increasingly into the systems business, adding Micros to their product line. A second office was opened in Easton MA permitting CCR to expand geographic service coverage and to coin the term "New England's Retail Systems Specialists."
In
1990 the company growth and industry changes led to a corporate reorganization.
A focused marketing and support structure was implemented for each of the major
market segments. Subsequently, the hardware service, supply sales, and product
development also became separate revenue centers. Increasingly, CCR invested in
an internal product development capability, using the industry experience gained
from its years in POS to craft specialized solutions for retailers nationwide.
David Woetzel, appointed company president in 1994, stresses the importance of
service to the future of CCR. "We believe that the primary reason retailers
chose us to implement four generations of POS equipment is that we have earned
their trust by a commitment to customer service."
Since 2000, CCR Data Systems has enjoyed steady growth with installations of its flagship software product, SpeedCheck, now in place throughout North America. The company has aligned itself with key partners, IBM, NCR and Microsoft, and continues to pioneer new technologies to enhance retail controls and patron point of service experiences for its customers. In reflecting on the company’s success over more than four decades David Woetzel quotes his father, "We are so thankful that God has given us the opportunity to live in a country where we enjoy great freedom to pursue our goals without government intrusion. Such blessings bring with them great responsibility. As a Bible-believing Christian, the ultimate goal is to conduct business affairs in a way that would bring credit to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." The Woetzels truly believe in the American ideal of starting a business and succeeding through hard work and God's blessing.
